Email AESAC | We are the Aboriginal Education Student Advisory Council [AESAC], a club within the corporation of the Lakehead University Student Union at Lakehead University. We are hosting an Education Conference under the theme of "Jurisdiction of Education". Our goals are to define "Indian Education" and to facilitate an understanding of what various political groups in Ontario are doing in terms of working towards jurisdiction of their education. Most importantly, we need to develop a common understanding of who has Jurisdiction concerning Indian and/ or Aboriginal education. April 24th, 2004 9:00 to 12:30 at Bora Laskin Building Lakehead University Thunder Bay, O.N. Feast and Entertainment will take place on April 23rd at 5:30 p.m.
Program to include: Registration will be $20 adults, Students $10. This conference is intended to bring together First Nation and Non-First Nation individuals interested in gaining a clearer understanding of today's provincial education system; how the policy surrounding education affects both aboriginal and non-aboriginal students, parents and teachers. Workshop presenters will be representatives involved in a variety of educational and political associations in Ontario. Teachers working with First Nations people in an educational environment will gain clearer understanding of Aboriginal student/ teacher concerns and needs required to receive and deliver genuine education. Parents will have the opportunity to understand educational funding. Students may gain a clearer understanding of how policy affects not only their classroom, but also education as a whole. The conference will provide keynote speakers as well as optional workshop opportunities allowing for question answer periods and discussion. |
